NAGA Midwest Grappling Championship 2010 Results
September 17th, 2010
Villa Park , Illinois ( IL ) — And the medal count grows... This past labor day weekend, NAGA's Midwest Grappling Tournament took over the Odeum in Villa Park for a massive two day tournament. The tournamnet brought out the best MMA, Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling schools and camps from the midwest region.
As the tournament progressed the Carlson Gracie Team name echoed frequently through the hall as the announcer called out winners of the brackets as they completed. The team suspected they were going to have a shot to take an overall first place.
When the results were finally published this week and despite formidable competition from nearly one hundred teams, Carlson Gracie Team took top honors in the Team No-Gi standings! Additional the Carlson Gracie Team placed second in Team Kids and Teens and Third in Team Gi. Overall the Carlson Gracie Team placed second narrowly losing to Team Torres by only 20 points, but dominated third place Gracie Barra by well over six hundred points.
Carlson Gracie Team MMA members came back with 37 medals total; 17 golds, 16 silvers and 4 bronzes!
Jeff Neal commented on his teams performance 'What a great tournament we had. There were so many team members that came back with big wins. It was impossible to keep track of all the medals that were won.'
Jason Sullins however had a different perspective 'I am so tired of second place (overall). I know what our team is capable of. We are right on the cusp of taking it all.' He added 'A twenty point difference is nothing. If just one of a couple little things that went against us in the tournament would have flipped in our direction we take the first place overall. We will be back and we are taking a first place. I think the top teams in the area know that they have their hand full.'
With outstanding tournament results under their belt and a second place overall finish by the slimmest of margins, you know the Carlson Gracie Team is chomping at the bit for the next tournament to showcase themselves again.
