Carlson Gracie Team MMA fighter Sam Ferguson earns a victory in MMA debut.

Naperville, Illinois ( IL ) -- On a night where UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman and UFC/Strikeforce veteran Wes Sims were on hand, Carlson Gracie Team MMA fighter Sam Ferguson made his MMA debut at Cut Throat MMA's Naperville Fight Night 3 in front of a packed house. With the crowd buzzing from earlier action, Sam made quick work of his opponent in the first round, who took the fight on short notice.
The fight started with a quick exchange where the well rounded CGTMMA fighter saw his opportunity to clinch and go for a takedown. Once the fight hit the mat, you could quickly see that the end was near. After getting in mount, Sam worked through his progression perfectly and finished the fight by TKO due to strikes. This left the Naperville crowd screaming and on their feet after an impressive one round finish.
After catching up with Coach Jason Sullins, he quickly broke down his thoughts on his long-time student, "Having been in Sam's corner for many competitions, that was exactly what I expected. I think we're going to see a lot more of the same in the future."
It can be unnerving for a fighter to make his debut against an opponent coming in on short notice. However, coach Jeff Neal saw it differently, "Sam followed the game plan perfectly, taking a guy on short notice would have been a problem but Sam is so well-rounded that we were comfortable with whoever he was going to go up against. He has such a complete game that we knew Sam wouldn't be flustered wherever the fight ended up."
One of the familiar faces in the Aurora/Naperville Carlson Gracie Team MMA gym, Sam Ferguson has no intentions of resting or taking time off. "I am going to take as little time off as possible. I am going to be competing at Gracie Nationals and possibly do a Muay Thai fight in mid December." Recapping his performance from the Naperville Fight Night for Cutthroat MMA, Sam said "I wanted to stand a little longer but I was happy with the finish." It looks like we will be seeing a lot more from this up and coming prospect in the near future.
