Danielle Hobeika is widely known for the photographs she takes at mixed martial arts fights. On Saturday, that changed. In addition to being known for her outstanding photographic ability, she is now also known as one of the few local amateur female fighters!
Danielle entered the Cage on Saturday night as the second fight of the night. She faced Crystal Helderman who was also making her mma debut. Not knowing who the opponent was until the week of the event and fighting in one of the first fights of the night was an unnerving experience for both fighters.
In a pre-fight interview Danielle commented, 'It’s definitely a little nerve wracking because I don’t know what to prepare for... I’m definitely just going over my game plan because no matter who I am going to be fighting, I want to enforce my game plan as opposed to playing to her strengths.'
Immediately following the opening horn the two fighters collided in the cage. Danielle used her collegiate wrestling background to complete a take down landing in side control. She quickly mounted and then used her Jiu-Jitsu training to work for and secure an arm triangle for her first win.
Jeff Neal commented, 'Danielle is a work horse. No one works harder than her. She is tough as nails and the outcome of this fight was exactly as I expected.' Jeff Neal also added 'Danielle was a top level college wrestler and she also just earned her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt. You saw the mix of these two talents come together in this fight for the win. I am very proud of her.'
True to her roots, after the fight Danielle quickly picked up the camera and photographed the rest of the event for her blog chicagomma.net!
Whats next for Danielle? More photography work, more training and also she adds in her post fight interview, 'My next competition is the IBJJF tournament in August... and I would love to fight again for this promotion.'
