Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival BJJ and Grappling Tournament

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The annual Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival takes place March 4, 5, 6 & 7 in Columbus, Ohio at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, and is a great competition for kids (5-14), teens (15-17), and adults.
The “Arnolds” host a wide variety of gi and no-gi martial arts events, including grappling / jiu-jitsu, judo, tae kwon do, karate, wrestling, and new in 2008, mixed martial arts. Many of the coaches at Carlson Gracie Team MMA – Aurora-Naperville have participated and coached in the festival, and encourage the competition to gauge and hone your skills.
“I’ve coached in the Arnolds for the last eight years, and it’s just an awesome experience for everyone,” said top student Jeff Neal.
Over ten members from our gym will take place in this year’s event, including former kids advanced jiu-jitsu champion, Ryan Bishop, son of coach Brian Bishop.
“The past success of our students is really a testament to the dedication and work we put in. It’s always great to see them have fun and succeed at such a high level,” said coach Brian Bishop.
The Arnold Sports Festival is the largest multi-sport event in the nation, with over 40 sports and events, including 13 Olympic sports. Over 17,000 athletes and 170,000 fitness enthusiasts attend the festival each year. It began as a bodybuilding competition in 1989, but has since grown into been the premier martial arts expo in the United States.
Regular attendees include Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. Arnold Schwarzenegger will be on hand, as well as grappling expert and former UFC fighter Frank Shamrock, who will receive the 2010 Martial Arts Achievement Award. Participants come from all over the world to take part in the event.
“The great part about the Arnolds is that it gives people a taste of international competition without having to travel very far,” said Neal. “Nothing has come close to it.”
