Tom Shoaff and Sam Ferguson win at CutThroat's Invasion 4
December 7th, 2011

Aurora, Illinois (IL) -- Carlson Gracie Team was well represented at Cut Throat’s Invasion 4 last Friday at La Sierra in Aurora. Our team sent two well-seasoned fighters into the cage and left with two victories. Both were in the first round, and both were dominant one-sided affairs. Those fighters were: Tom Shoaff and Sam Ferguson.
Instructor Tom Shoaff came into the fight undefeated, hungry and looking for a chance to show off his striking ability. Before the fight, Shoaff had two opponents drop from the card. Whether they weren’t up for the challenge, injured, or whatever, Shoaff’s record and dominant wins have made it difficult for the fighter to find worthy competition. And Friday night’s fight didn’t help to blemish his formidable reputation.
Shoaff was faced against Cody Smith at Invasion 4. Shoaff was by far the bigger fighter, and his weight and strength advantage had the crowd buzzing before the first horn. Smith was able to show heart and he tried for a few takedowns during the fight, but the size and strength of Shoaff were easily able to brush off Smith’s attempts. Shoaff kept his promise to keep the fight standing, even letting Smith get to his feet a few times, but the bout ended with a murderous uppercut that floored Smith. KO. Shoaff is consistently one of the best strikers in the gym, and that was easy enough for anyone to see at La Sierra.
Fighting in the main event, Sam Ferguson was matched up against Andrew West. Ranked as the #2 and #9 fighters in the 185-pound division on Cut Throat’s rankings, both fighters entered the cage with a lot to prove. Coming into the fight Ferguson had already been involved in four different fights in an eight-week span. Despite that exhausting pace, Ferguson was able to control the fight for much of the bout, and was able to able to execute a full mount on West near the last half of the first round. In that position Ferguson was able to land numerous punches on West before the ten-second marker clapped. After that signal Ferguson moved quickly to end the fight. It took Ferguson six seconds to seamlessly put West in an arm bar and win the fight.
Our fighters are always competition ready and these two fighters demonstrated that by dominating their fights.
