Viet Nguyen Competes for the Final Time at Babes and Brawls 5

December 9th, 2010

Viet Nguyen's Final Mixed Martial Arts Fight

Auroa, Illinois ( IL ) -- Athletes for a long time have been faced with the question on when to hang it up for years, just ask Brett Favre. We have even seen Michael Jordan come out of retirement and play for the Washington Wizards due to still having the competitive fire to compete on a nightly basis. However, in combat sports you see many guys fighting into their 40's with some having better results than others. Randy Couture has been able to compete at a high level at the age of 47. Although some mixed martial artists like Ken Shamrock have not had the same success having lost nine of his last twelve fights. On the other hand, some athletes decide to hang it up when they are on top, a la Barry Sanders.

For Carlson Gracie Team MMA Muay Thai instructor Viet Nguyen, who is coming off of a win at Babes and Brawls 4 by rear-naked choke, retirement is just a fight away. Heading into his fight with MMA Coalition's Aaron Hammonds, who is also coming off of a rear-naked choke victory as well, Viet has decided to hang the gloves up. The fight will be taking place at the Atlantis Gentleman's Club for Babes and Brawls 5 on December 11th. It's not for the fact that the Muay Thai kickboxing instructor can't compete at a high level, it's for the fact that he wants to focus more on other aspects of the fight game.

“I still feel strong, my body feels great, I'm just at a point where I feel it is time to move on and focus on other things.,” Viet added about his final bout. “I have been competing in martial arts for over 23 years and it is time that I focus on giving back to the sport I love. I enjoy teaching Muay Thai classes, especially our Muay Thai for kids program since all of the kids are so energetic and willing to learn.”

Going into his final bout, Viet is focused on putting on a good show for all of his teammates and students at Carlson Gracie Team. On his opponent and fight December 11th, Viet said, “I know I'm going in there against a tough opponent, but I'm more concerned with making the Carlson Gracie Team proud and putting on a great show for all of the members.” If you have seen Viet's past performances, you can expect an exciting bout and that he will put it all on the line.

On December 11th, one fighter's career will come to an end, but in a way will continue on through the knowledge he passes on to his students. Viet Nguyen may be hanging up the gloves after Babes and Brawls 5, however, he will continue to give back to martial arts while teaching future champions Muay Thai lessons and the techniques that he has learned through a liftetime of martial arts training.
