Ricardo 'The Bully' Lamas Competes at Final WEC Event
December 16th, 2010

Phoenix , Arizona (AZ) -- The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is the premier organization in mixed martial arts, and now the lighter weight fighters in the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) will get the chance to showcase their talents on the biggest stage. Zuffa has decided to merge the WEC, which showcases fighters at 135, 145 and 155 pounds, into it's sister promotion the UFC. However, the WEC will have one final event which will take place in Glendale, Arizona on December 16th.
One fighter on the final WEC card will be Carlson Gracie Team fighter Ricardo Lamas. Lamas is a veteran of five fights in the WEC with an overall pro record of 9-1. Lamas has been training with Carlson Gracie Team for the past four years training under Head MMA Coach Jeff Neal. As a wrestler at Elmhurst College, Lamas earned All-American honors which gave him a strong base entering mixed martial arts. Great wrestling isn't enough to compete at the highest level of MMA, so Lamas has worked extensively on all areas of his game. He is also a high level purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Carlson Gracie Team instructor Jeff Neal. Lamas has also been known to teach Muay Thai at the Aurora/Naperville Carlson Gracie Team gym.
Not only is Lamas' ground game very impressive, he has the ability to stand up with any opponent and impose his will with his striking as well. All you have to do is watch Ricardo Lamas' fight against Bendy Casmir and you can see that Lamas has a devastating striking game. Casmir was on the receiving end of a highlight reel flying knee knockout from the Carlson Gracie Team fighter. Ricardo Lamas' next opponent will be dangerous Brazilian fighter Yuri Alcantara, who has also been known for devastating striking and an elite ground game.
Going into WEC 53 in Glendale, Arizona, Jeff Neal is confident that Lamas has all the tools to be successful. "I expect Rick to do very well, he is a well-rounded fighter with great conditioning.," Jeff Neal stated regarding the fight with Alcantara December 16th. Neal adds, "Having good striking, jiu-jitsu and wrestling gives us a lot of options when coming up with a game plan and we know Rick will press the action." Lamas will look to dictate where the fight takes place and try to frustrate his opponent by using his well-rounded attack.
With the final event for the WEC showcasing two title fights, Ricardo Lamas has the opportunity to continue to make an impact in the lightweight division on a big stage. However, after December 16th, Lamas will be competing on a larger scale as a UFC lightweight fighter with his eyes on the biggest prize in Mixed Martial Arts, the Ultimate Fighting Championship belt.
